Alphabetize and organize your disc collection. Print titlesheets for Discgear products. Simple and easy to use. Designed for Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP and Mac OSX. More
The online version offers better customization but for large collections it is cumbersome. The local software version needs to take into account that numerous types of discs can be stored, music, movies, software, picture albums, etc. Need more control over column headings. Might also consider integrating with bar code scanning and mobile platform inventory app. THAT would be most impressive and welcome!

Rcvd Discgear 100, including the CD, from my daughter some time ago; just started using it to store mostly data and applications. Installation (Vista home Premium 32-bit) got 98% complete, then hung up. I clicked Cancel, and was ignored, so I ordered reboot; my computer spent all night "logging Out" and ignoring the Often (off/on) switch, so I unplugged line power and tested the battery. That worked, but I'm reluctant to retry.

Diskware Lite Needs lots of work. Just do it in a spreadsheet and avoid yourself lots of pain redoing the work. Can not even do a simple cut and paste.

Easy to enter data and put in alphabetical order. Can't change title layout. Will not print the correct size insert for a Selector 50 case. Have to reduce by 81% on copy machine to fit insert. Program doesn't have many menu items but is usable.

The software needs a lot of work. It is slow and cludgy. It does not respond quickly and enable easy heads-down data entry. Dropdown lists do not easily allow fast-typing. Use the online tool or a spreadsheet.

Discware light can't handle Selector 80S

They don't update
BEST USES
Comments:
The software hasn't been updated since it was invented. As new units come out, the software becomes obsolete. Right now, I have the Selector 80S, and this format is not in the Discware Lite. The online software is cumbersome, & I had to reenter all my listings because there wasn't a clear instruction on how to alphabetize the list. The fix is so simple, yet this company continues to provide inadequate software for their storage units!!

Comments:
This is handy for printing out the index but less handy for searching. I would like to extract all data into something like access or excel to make a more searchable index. There does not seem to be any way to do this other than by doing cut and paste one line at a time. Have you got any tips on how I might be able to get all data out of discware lite so I can import into access??

Comments:
Using for DVDs. Unfortunately, can't get rid of the 1st column (Author) or even move the column to the end so that "Title" is first which is more convenient for DVDs than CDs. Should be able to sort the actual columns into any order. Also, after I type in all the titles, then "sort by title", the physical location (A1, A2, etc) remains the same so I have to use the Up/Down command to then move the titles to the correct position so that I can place them in alphabetical order in my holder starting with slot #1 - very cumbersome. There should be a "renumber as sorted" command so that you can "sort" and then "renumber" to have the slot positions renumber themselves to match the "sort". It should be a seperate command so that those that do not want to renumber won't have to. I like my DVDs to be in the holder alphabetically but shouldn't have to alphabetize them myself before typing in the titles. Also, Now that I have the software on my laptop, how do I transfer the data file to my desktop? Seems you are stuck with your data on whatever machine you first install it on. Why isn't the data file able to be saved as a seperate file so it can be opened by the program in another pc?Also, there is no "import" command. I have all my titles in an excel sheet. I should be able to import them into this program not have to retype them all.For [$]this software should have more features than this. Other than a pretty picture of the unit, you can do much more in any free database program. Sorely lacking in features unless they are hidden someplace.

Comments:
I've been able to enter my discs by Artist/Author and Disc Title into the Storage Unit's Catalog as well as add track names for each disc. And then I've been able to print out the Unit's Catalog. But I can't determine how to print the 'Disk Contents'. Having the names of the disc tracks available for reference on a seperate sheet of paper is more important to me to be able to find a song by it's title than is it to find by the Artist or the name of the CD. Please let me know if it is possible to print out the 'Disc Contents' and how to do it.
