I gave this product as a Christmas gift to a Senior Systems Analyst friend of mine. He utilizes it to store and sort his software that he must take with him as he travels on service calls. He loves it and I have loved every Discgear product that I have purchased for myself and as gifts in the past. No complaints from any recipients either, only praises. These are durable, handy and generally reasonably priced items. I really can post no cons about these products. Randy

This is a "Best" value - low price, and holds 80 disks. Slide out tray holds the index, although I used MS Word (8-point text) to create it rather than use the included sheets. Operation is simple and effective. Use on a solid, flat surface.

The two DiscSelect 80's that I have are great. My CD's are quickly accessible, stored compactly, and easily transportable. The software for building the indexes is easy to use, and flexible to sort by title or artist, and updates are a cinch.

I have 6 of these units storing 2 seperate 200+ collections. The storage is great! The ease of use is great!
However, the labeling system stinks and the software provided is extremely slow. The units also need an area to insert a label for the slot location. It is difficult for kids to figure out that movie 110 is in slot 30 of box #2.
I created labels for the slots in Excel and a template for the sleeve labels. It would have been nice to have been able to download these templates rather than create them.

This is my personal recomendation for anyone who wants, or even doesn't want yet NEEDS to save space. Throw away those awful, low quality wallets, and set this on or near your entertainment center. One of the BEST organizers available. Not a problem to set up. Just number and title each slot and then put the appropriate disk into the slot and close the lid! The only changes I would make to this product is that I would give it a locking feature so if you need to transport it from one room to another, you don't have to worry about you discs falling out and getting damaged.

I have all my music CDs in one and all my movies in the other. It has never been easier to find what I want to listen to or which movie I want to watch. Wonderful product and well designed to be compact and durable. I have had my discgears for several years now and they still look new.

The 80S works faster for me than the 100 which lifts the disc automatically. I now have two 80S units, one for Dvd movies and one for cpu software.

It would be great if it was the first of it's kind. But it has no lock on it. So you can't really travel with this one and feel safe your cd or dvd's in it. they could spill out very easily. For home use that is kept on a shelf it's ok but for the price i would get a selector 50 i think thats a much better deal and more styleish for home use as well. I wrote one other review and thats for the studio 100 i love that.

Software to index discs should be free and included with the storage unit. I've tried the "discstakka" by Imation and found them to be junk. They could not maintain an accurate location of the selected disc. This is an elegant, simple solution

Fantastic. By storing the cases in my attic and putting all of my DVDs and CDs in these storage units and using catalog software to keep track of where each disc was located, I was able to compress 400 DVDs, Blu-Ray discs and CDs onto one 13" X 13" square of my bookshelf!

I like the new version of the select 80, the new indexing system really beats the older model which was a nightmare to get printed using ADOBE. But I do miss not having a handle especially when you have 8 of them setting in a book case. You have to be careful picking them up from the sides with two hands otherwise you wind up opening the cover and dump all 80 disc in the floor. BE THERE, DONE THAT (lol) twice.

It's unbelievable how much space storing 490+ disc take up, even using the slim jewel cases.

Well worth the money!!!

I own two Selector 80S's and love them. I use them for movies. One has adult movies in it and the other children movies. When I want to watch a movie I just look at the list (typed online) pick the number of the movie slide the control and I have the movie. No more clutter of movie boxes or big cabinets. It sits right on top of the table.

Easy to retreive DVD,s but difficult when adding new DVD,s. You have to move all disc,s after the additional DVD over one slot. Make sure you leave spare slots at the end of all your units for new DVD,s.

Bought several similar items from this company at a mall about 10 years ago and they locked closed, a real plus. These are nice units, but they do not lock closed. The lock wasn't a security feature, it was a safety issue, too easy to dump one if you pick it up wrong and all your disks will fall out. Still, very nice product, well designed, little on the pricey side for plastic, but have not seen anything better on the market.

These units are GREAT !!!

I first bought 3 to try them out and make sure they were ok. Since then I bought an additional 5. My only negative comment would be that their discware online utility is too slow. I am going to buy discware lite and try that instead. Overall this product is the best CD/DVD storage system available.

I bought two of these units. I use one for my Playstation/PS2 games and the other for my Xbox and Wii games.
I have heard people say that it is hard to organize, but I found it very user-friendly and easy to set up. The discs just roll in and when you need them they come right out.
Now the DO suggest that you number your discs with a permanent marker, but, no thank you.
The only real difficulty that I had was after I printed out my custom label, I went to get a game out of it from the label and it was the wrong one. I was angry until I realized that I had failed to enter a disc into the list, but all else was smooth.
As I conned, when I go to print the titlesheets from the website they print too big to fit into the unit, which could be a fault of mine or a formatting issue with the printer, but I got around that by making a spreadsheet that prints the titlesheet out and fits perfectly.
I DO have another con...Where am I supposed to put all the empty game cases that I no longer need? ;)

I have wanted one of these for so long and I finally got it. I ordered on Monday and received it on Thursday, super fast! It is perfect! I keep it on shelf and usually put it on the carpet to open and it works perfect. I love this. The shelf looks so organized and is no longer an eye sore!

These products are great. In my family we have 4 and we gave 1 as a Christmas gift to a close friend. They are functional and great for storing discs. The one we have in our living room saved us TONs of space and looks great. Everyone that comes over asks us what it is and where they can get for themselves. Geat storage solution! But having to create a user profile and log into some online data base to print index files is UNACCEPTABLE! DiscGear SHOULD provide an offline / private index printing solution.

It saves space; it's easy to use; even my wife loves it.

She (my wife) has a tendency to break CD cases, and pull CD's out of their cases before puting away the one that's in the player. At the end of the day, CD's were all over the place. With this unit, she takes one out of the player, puts it away, and quickly finds the next one. No more mess or confusion.
